Hey there! This page is for you to get to know me and my mission, so go ahead and dive in!
Who are you?
My name’s Syn and I’m a black, queer femme in the U.S. in the 2020s. Like many of my Gen Z peers, I’ve kind of had it with some of the systems in place in this the “Greatest Country in the World”. I’ve always had a knack for writing and research, so for me, educating others is one of the most accessible forms of activism, along with the one I have the most passion for. Building this blog was a way for me to create my own space to fill the needs that aren’t being met; I guess you can just think of me as a freelance tutor of sorts.
What is What’s Been Withheld?
This site is intended to be a tool for education; I intend to use this little blog to educate the masses (or at least like five people) on black life, history, and oppression. There’s a cavernous hole in the spot where American’s education on black life should be, which is a large part of the reason why we’re facing many of the issues we’ve been dealing with recently. It’s clear that no one in power is going to dedicate themselves to close this gap any time soon, so it’s in the hands of the people now. This is my contribution.
